The Research Institute of Public Health, University of Kuopio has a tradition of over 25 years in cardiovascular epidemiology, cardiovascular clinical research and clinical nutritional research. The main research is the role of oxidative stress and lipid peroxidation in atherosclerosis and the role of antioxidative compounds and nutrients in the reduction of lipid peroxidation and in the prevention of atherosclerotic progression. The current staff of the institute includes approximately 20 academic research fellows or associates and more than 20 non-academic staff members. Most of these have worked at the institute for years and are well trained in epidemiological methods and clinical field work, subject management and clinical and laboratory practice. The current staff of the institute has a notable expertise in the conduction of clinical trials.
